During the month of September there are a number Feast Days or Memoria devoted to Our Lady.
8th The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 12th The Most Holy Name of Mary, 15th Our Lady of Sorrows, 24th Our Lady of Walsingham. This Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows grew in popularity in the 12th century, although under various titles. Some writings would place its roots in the eleventh century, especially among the Benedictine monks. By the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, the feast and devotion were widespread throughout the Church. In 1482, the feast was officially placed in the Roman Missal under the title of Our Lady of Compassion, highlighting the great love our Blessed Mother displayed in suffering with her Son.
