The Transfiguration of the Lord – Year A –

This Feast takes the place of the 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Usually, only a “Solemnity” replaces a Sunday, however there are 4 “Feasts of the Lord” which do replace the Sunday if they coincide: The Presentation (2 Feb); The Transfiguration (6 Aug), The Exaltation of the Cross (14 Sept) and the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica (Nov 9). Our Lord revealing his glory on Mount Tabor has always been regarded as an event to inspire us all in our journey of faith. The gospel reading is always proclaimed on the 2nd Sunday of Lent but it also has its own feast today. The awesome sight of the glory God should encourage us to seek those “God moments” in our lives—glimpses of beauty, wonder, joy, love. Listen for the voice of the Father speaking to us proclaiming “This is my Son, the Beloved!” God is with us!
