THE 20TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR A

Today’s second reading was not chosen to match the Gospel and first reading, yet it fits them remarkably well. Much of the message of Romans is reflected in this Sunday’s Liturgy of the Word: the Messiah came first to Israel, the people to whom God’s promises were given. But the good news could not remain with them alone. It was destined for all nations, so that every people, and indeed all creation, might welcome the Messiah and share in God’s Kingdom. As the psalm proclaims: “Let all the peoples praise you, O God!”
