THE 21st SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR A

This Sunday’s readings share a simple theme: authority in the Church comes from God. In the first reading, God removes Shebna and appoints a successor, foreshadowing the Gospel where Peter is given authority. Peter receives this role not because of worldly power or wisdom, but because he professes faith in Christ, the one sent by the Father. True authority in the Church is rooted in God, expressed through faith and a Christ-centred life, for “all authority in heaven and on earth has been given” to Him.
