PALM SUNDAY OF THE PASSION OF THE LORD  -Year B

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of “The Great Week”. The Messiah enters his City. In the prophet the Ezekiel, the “Shekinah”, “the glory of God” left the Temple and disappeared over the Mount of Olives. When the Messiah comes it was prophesised that it would be in the same way—thus, Jesus comes down the Mount of Olives and up into the City and the Temple. We are called to wave palms as the crowds did then and we all take part in the reading of the Passion which is to come this week. This year it is St Mark’s version and we are invited to enter into the mystery: the congregation is asked to speak the part of the crowd. Take note also of the single voices and the different characters; how can I relate to their part in the Passion? Maybe think about “Mark’s” appearance as the young man who runs away naked; or the hard-faced Roman centurion who is led to faith and proclaims, “In truth, this man was a Son of God”. Take part in this week as much as you are able to; it gives meaning to everything.
