The Church dedicates the month of July to the Most Precious Blood of Jesus. This devotion draws our attention to the saving sacrifice of Christ, whose blood was poured out for the forgiveness of sins and the life of the world.

In Scripture, blood is a sign of life. When we speak of the Precious Blood of Jesus, we are reflecting on the total gift of Christ’s life — freely offered out of love. From the shedding of blood at the agony in the Garden, the scourging and crowning with thorns, to the blood and water flowing from Christ’s side on the Cross, the Gospels remind us that salvation came at a great cost.

When we receive Holy Communion — whether under the form of bread alone or both kinds — we truly receive the Body and Blood of Christ.
