The Immaculate Heart of Mary is a Catholic devotion that focuses on the interior life of the Virgin Mary—her love for God, her faith, purity, compassion, and complete obedience to God’s will.

The word “heart” is understood symbolically.

It refers to Mary’s:

• Deep faith and trust
• Joys and sorrows
• Interior holiness and virtues

The entire month falls within the liturgical season of Ordinary Time, which is represented by the liturgical colour green. This symbol of hope is the colour of the sprouting seed and arouses in the faithful the hope of reaping the eternal harvest of heaven, especially the hope of a glorious resurrection.
